David (1): Chosen, Anointed and More Than a King

Why this study: Many believers measure their worth by titles and positions. David's story shows that God looks at the heart, chooses whom He wills, and fills the chosen with His Spirit.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • David was more than a king: a shepherd, singer, warrior, worshipper and prophet who served God in every role.
  • God always has a substitute for anyone who refuses to obey Him; Saul's failure opened the door for David.
  • God is sovereign. He does not need a vote, and when His appointed day for you comes, nothing can stop it.
  • Once anointed, a life becomes a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit; it is dangerous to be discarded by God.
  • Praise invites God's presence, and where God is present the enemy cannot stay.

Live it now

Stop comparing yourself with others and start serving faithfully where you are. Guard the anointing on your life with holiness, and make praise a daily habit, not only a Sunday activity.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, let my heart please You the way David's heart did, whatever my role in life.
  2. Father, fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit and never let me become a discarded vessel.
  3. Teach me to praise You in every season, so that every oppression flees from my life and home.
Bible charactersOutlines 808–818

David (2): Facing Your Goliath

Why this study: Every believer meets giants: impossible situations, fears and opposition. David shows how faith, holiness and dependence on God turn a frightening battle into a testimony.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • Sin produces fear, but holiness produces holy boldness.
  • Watch your words: those who are backsliding say 'it is impossible'; those standing firm say 'with God it is possible'.
  • The God who gave you yesterday's victory over the lion and the bear can repeat the miracle against today's giant.
  • Our weapons are not carnal. David refused Saul's armour and fought in the name of the Lord.
  • Never underestimate the enemy, and never be overconfident or proud; let God fight the battle.
  • Every giant has a weak spot, and every problem has a solution in Christ.

Live it now

Name the 'giant' you are facing this week. Write down past victories God has given you, confess His promises aloud, and take one step of faith instead of waiting for the problem to shrink.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, replace every fear in my heart with holy boldness.
  2. Father, fight my battles and let every Goliath in my life fall in Jesus' name.
  3. Remind me of Your past faithfulness, and repeat Your miracles in my life.
Bible charactersOutlines 819–827

David (3): Covenant, Promotion and Jealousy

Why this study: Success brings both friends and enemies. David's friendship with Jonathan and Saul's growing jealousy teach us about covenant, faithful character and how to respond when people turn against us.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • A covenant is a binding agreement; through the blood of Jesus we can enter covenant with God.
  • Jonathan gave David his robe and weapons but not his throne; Jesus gave His church everything.
  • Promotion comes from God to the faithful, humble and obedient.
  • Prophecy can come from the Holy Spirit, the human spirit or evil spirits; test every word.
  • Darkness always tries to destroy light, but God is more than enough to deliver.
  • Until the flesh is crucified, a person stays divided, like Saul.

Live it now

Thank God for the covenant you have in Christ. Examine whether jealousy, anger or a double life is quietly growing in you, and bring it to the cross. Choose friends who strengthen your walk with God.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Thank You, Jesus, for the new covenant sealed with Your blood.
  2. Lord, promote me in Your time, and keep me humble and faithful.
  3. Deliver me from jealousy and a divided heart; let Your Spirit rule my flesh.
Bible charactersOutlines 828–841

David (4): The Fugitive Years

Why this study: Seasons of running, hiding and waiting can feel wasted. David's years on the run show that God trains, protects and builds His people even in caves.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • When you hide in the Rock of Ages, your security is assured.
  • Avoid anger at all cost; God will not accept half measures.
  • God's work must be done in an acceptable manner, and only the pure can dine at His table.
  • God can turn the enemy's weapon (Goliath's sword) into a tool for your victory.
  • God gathers the distressed, the indebted and the discontented and turns them into mighty men.
  • It pays to care for our parents, both natural and spiritual; and there is a time to say 'No' to ungodly orders.

Live it now

If you are in a 'cave' season, don't despise it. Use it to pray, grow and serve the people God sends to you. Honour your parents and spiritual leaders in practical ways this week.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, be my hiding place and my rock in every season of pressure.
  2. Turn every weapon formed against me into a testimony.
  3. Make me a blessing to my parents and spiritual leaders, and give me courage to say no to sin.
Bible charactersOutlines 842–864

David (5): Nabal, Abigail and the Danger of Pride

Why this study: Pride, ingratitude and refusal to take advice destroyed Nabal; wisdom and humility preserved Abigail. This study shows how character decides destiny.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • What God says you will become, you will become, whether the enemy likes it or not.
  • Judgement of the anointed belongs to God; leave vengeance to Him.
  • Meekness is hard, but it pays.
  • Parents must train their children in the fear of the Lord, and children must submit to correction.
  • There is a greatness superior to wealth; the content matters more than the container.
  • Pride says 'my, my, mine' and leads to disgrace; a grateful heart counts its blessings.
  • A virtuous, wise spouse is a crown, and there are no accidental meetings with God.

Live it now

List 10 blessings and thank God for them today. Ask a trusted believer for honest advice in one area of your life, and act on it. Refuse to take revenge on anyone who has wronged you.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, uproot every seed of pride and ingratitude in my heart.
  2. Give me wisdom like Abigail's to speak the right word at the right time.
  3. Bless my home; help us raise our children in the fear of the Lord.
Bible charactersOutlines 865–876

David (6): Sparing Saul and Trusting God's Timing

Why this study: David twice had the chance to kill Saul, and twice refused. Knowing when not to act is as important as knowing when to fight.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • The anointed are carriers of the Holy Spirit; touch not God's anointed.
  • There is only one secure security: the Lord.
  • God fights in many ways; sometimes He simply puts the enemy to sleep.
  • Spiritual sleep is dangerous; the Lord is calling His people to wake up.
  • If God is displeased with you, repent quickly; against human enemies, stand as a soldier.
  • Everyone is seeking something; seek the Lord first.
  • For the true child of God, the chase is over: you are free, so live free.

Live it now

Is there someone you would like to 'pay back'? Hand them to God in prayer. Check for spiritual sleepiness, such as prayerlessness or skipped Bible reading, and set a simple daily routine to stay awake.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, give me patience to wait for Your timing and never to take matters into my own hands.
  2. Wake me up spiritually; let me never sleep while the enemy sows tares.
  3. Thank You that I am free in Christ; help me enjoy and protect that freedom.
Bible charactersOutlines 877–879

David (7): Light Living Among Darkness

Why this study: Weary of running, David moved into Philistine territory. His compromise warns believers about settling among those who oppose God.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • If you conquer yourself, no outside enemy can defeat you.
  • Keep your inner man strong; if the spirit is broken the battle is lost.
  • Light cannot comfortably dwell with darkness; be separate.
  • Beware of flattery, and do not accommodate the enemy.
  • Whose servant are you? Eternity is a very long time.

Live it now

Review your closest relationships and daily environment. Where are you compromising to fit in? Take one practical step to be separate without being unkind.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, strengthen my inner man by Your Spirit.
  2. Give me grace to be in the world but not of the world.
  3. Let me serve You alone, now and for eternity.
Holy Spirit & powerOutlines 301–303

Elisha: A Study in Double Anointing

Why this study: Many Christians want God's power but do not understand what it protects and provides. Elisha's ministry shows the security and lasting impact of the anointing.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • The anointing is the greatest insurance against disaster; those who value it stay close to it.
  • The anointed have unseen bodyguards; God's host surrounds His servants.
  • When your ways please the Lord, He makes even your enemies be at peace with you.
  • The word God speaks, written or through His servants, will not fall to the ground.
  • A nation's security rests partly on the anointed within it, and the anointed's influence outlives them.

Live it now

Ask God to open your eyes to His protection in your current difficulty. Stay close to godly leaders and fellowship, and pray for your city and nation.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, open my eyes to see the hosts You have sent to protect me.
  2. Let Your anointing rest upon me and never depart.
  3. Fulfil every word You have spoken concerning my life and family.
Holiness & obedienceOutlines 304–305

A Heart With Idols

Why this study: Idolatry is not only bowing to statues. Lust, rebellion and pride can sit on the throne of a believer's heart and quietly rule it.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • An idol is anything that takes God's place in our affections or obedience.
  • Lust leads to sin and death if it is not destroyed.
  • Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft; murmuring is its warning sign.
  • Pride makes God an enemy and goes before destruction.
  • God will not partly remove an idol; we must demolish it completely.

Live it now

Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what competes with God for your time, money and attention. Remove one 'idol' this week, such as a habit, screen time or a grudge, and replace it with prayer or Scripture.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, search my heart and expose every hidden idol.
  2. Give me grace to tear down every throne that is not Yours.
  3. Deliver me from lust, rebellion and pride.
Bible charactersOutlines 306–311

Esther: Vessels Unto Honour

Why this study: God has vessels of honour and of dishonour. Through Vashti, Esther and Mordecai we learn what keeps a person useful in God's hands, and what disqualifies them.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • Christians exist because there is Christ: put Him first in everything.
  • Watch and pray; the enemy looks for a moment to displace God's vessels.
  • When one vessel falls, God raises another; there is no vacuum.
  • Humility, obedience and submission brought Esther favour.
  • Vessels are made to be used; leaders must be willing to lay down their lives.
  • The counsel of the wicked will not stand, and the wealth of the wicked is stored up for the righteous.
  • A vessel unto honour is a soldier who never gives the devil breathing space.

Live it now

Ask yourself: 'Is God still first in my schedule and decisions?' Consider where God has positioned you 'for such a time as this', such as your workplace, school or family, and act for His people there.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, make me a vessel unto honour, sanctified and useful to You.
  2. Give me Esther's courage to stand for Your people when it counts.
  3. Frustrate every evil plan against Your church and my family.
Victory & warfareOutlines 312, 697

Weapons of Our Warfare

Why this study: Many believers fight spiritual battles with carnal weapons such as anger, schemes and worry. Scripture gives us better weapons, and warns about using the wrong 'sword'.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against spiritual powers.
  • We need God's help both in the battle and after the victory, when we are most vulnerable.
  • Our weapons: the name of Jesus, the Word of God, prayer and fasting, the blood of the Lamb, faith, the Holy Spirit and praise.
  • Backsliding opens the door to fear, confusion and compromise.

Live it now

Pick one weapon you rarely use, such as fasting, praise or declaring Scripture, and use it deliberately this week over a specific situation.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, teach my hands to war and my fingers to fight in the Spirit.
  2. By the blood of Jesus and the word of my testimony, I overcome every attack.
  3. Keep me watchful and prayerful after every victory.
Holiness & obedienceOutlines 313, 681, 699

Sanctification: Who May Dwell on God's Holy Hill?

Why this study: Holiness is often treated as optional. God says without it no one will see Him, and Psalm 15 describes those who will live in His presence.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • Justification deals with the guilt of sin; sanctification deals with its power.
  • Sanctification is both instant, being set apart in Christ, and progressive, growing in His likeness.
  • Those who dwell on God's hill walk uprightly, speak truth, refuse to backbite and keep their promises.
  • Holiness affects how we treat neighbours, debtors and the innocent.

Live it now

Read Psalm 15 slowly and mark one line you struggle with. Make it your prayer focus for the week, and make one practical change, such as keeping a promise you made or ending gossip.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, sanctify me wholly: spirit, soul and body.
  2. Give me clean hands and a pure heart, that I may dwell in Your presence.
  3. Help me keep my word even when it costs me.
Faith, prayer & blessingOutlines 314, 655

The Law of Harvest

Why this study: Every day we sow seeds by our words, attitudes and actions. The law of harvest explains much of what happens in our lives, for good or bad.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • Whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap.
  • Seeds sown in secret produce a harvest everyone can see.
  • There is a waiting period between sowing and reaping, but the harvest never fails.
  • The harvest is always greater than the seed.

Live it now

Look at one area where you want a different harvest: relationships, finances or spiritual growth. What seed must you start sowing today? Sow it consistently.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, help me sow seeds of righteousness, kindness and generosity.
  2. Uproot every evil seed I have sown, by the blood of Jesus.
  3. Give me patience to wait for my harvest without growing weary.
Holy Spirit & powerOutlines 315–317

Anointing: Preparation, Purpose and Power

Why this study: Everyone wants the anointing, but few want the preparation. This study explains what the anointing costs, what it is for, and how to keep it flowing.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • The anointing cannot be bought with money; it comes through repentance, godly sorrow and fervent prayer.
  • The anointing is for conquest: dealing with lions, giants, demonic oppression and poverty.
  • The anointing destroys yokes.
  • Like electricity, the anointing can be cut off by sin, anger or disconnection, but it can be restored.

Live it now

Set aside a time of consecration this week: fasting, repentance and seeking God's face. Identify anything that is 'short-circuiting' your spiritual life and deal with it.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, I repent of every sin that hinders Your anointing in my life.
  2. Let Your anointing destroy every yoke over me and my family.
  3. Keep me connected to You so that Your power never fails in my life.
Holiness & obedienceOutlines 318

Our Thoughts and the God of Peace

Why this study: Our thoughts shape our character and direction. God's peace dwells where the mind is filled with what is true, pure and lovely.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.
  • Thoughts have a reflex effect on the whole character, and we pursue what we think about.
  • Philippians 4:8 lists six 'gatekeepers' of the mind: true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report.
  • The God of peace abides where the heart is kept free from evil thoughts.

Live it now

Audit your inputs, such as music, social media, conversations and shows, against Philippians 4:8. Replace one negative input with Scripture or worship this week.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, renew my mind by Your Word.
  2. Guard my heart and thoughts with Your peace.
  3. Help me take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
Holy Spirit & powerOutlines 319–326

Acts (1): Power From on High

Why this study: Within a generation the early church reached its world with the gospel. Their secret was not political power but the power of the Holy Spirit.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • The gospel spread in stages from Jerusalem to Rome.
  • There is a power superior to political power: the Holy Spirit.
  • Miracles are essential to effective evangelism.
  • Jesus ascended for our benefit, and He is coming again.
  • Divine guidance has conditions; don't choose first and ask God to bless it afterwards.
  • Pentecost came at harvest time: the Spirit is given for the harvest of souls.

Live it now

If you have not received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, seek it in prayer this week. If you have, ask God to use you for one specific person who needs to hear the gospel.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Holy Spirit, fill me afresh and baptise me with power from on high.
  2. Lord, confirm Your Word through me with signs and wonders.
  3. Make me ready for the return of Jesus Christ.
Bible charactersOutlines 334–337, 343–351

Acts (2): The Early Church in Action

Why this study: The first church was joyful, generous, bold and pure. Their example challenges a comfortable church today.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • The 'notable day of the Lord' is coming; it will be joy for some and sorrow for others.
  • Christianity is a matter of the heart; the Word pierces hearts and leads to repentance.
  • Genuine believers continue steadfastly in doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayer.
  • If you have Jesus, you have everything; 'such as I have give I thee'.
  • Salvation is in no other name; true believers cannot stop witnessing.
  • Love and unity are an unbeatable combination; Ananias and Sapphira show the danger of half-hearted service.

Live it now

Commit to one practice of the early church this month: daily prayer, a fellowship group, generous giving or sharing your testimony.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, give Your church boldness to speak Your Word.
  2. Unite us in love, so that we are of one heart and one soul.
  3. Deliver me from hypocrisy and half-hearted service.
Holiness & obedienceOutlines 321

True Worship

Why this study: Much worship is routine and outward. God is seeking those who worship Him in spirit and in truth.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • Only a regenerated heart can truly worship God.
  • Worship must be in spirit and in truth, not merely posture.
  • Christ's sacrifice, resurrection and intercession should fill our worship.
  • The flesh must not be allowed to spoil sacred moments with God.

Live it now

Before your next service, spend 10 minutes alone thanking God for what Christ did. During worship, focus on Him rather than the people around you.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Father, make me a true worshipper in spirit and in truth.
  2. Let my worship be acceptable in Your sight.
  3. Remove every distraction that hinders my fellowship with You.
Holiness & obedienceOutlines 327, 394, 617

Backsliding and the Call to Restoration

Why this study: Backsliding seldom happens in a day; it happens step by step. God warns of the danger and also offers a way back.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • The backslider's end can be worse than the beginning.
  • Backsliding often starts with self-will, pride, misuse of power and love of pleasure, as in Saul's life.
  • Its fruits include fear, loss of God's voice and seeking help from darkness.
  • Warning signs: no time for the Word, prayerlessness, toleration of evil and no longer caring about heaven.
  • God promises healing to backsliders who return with a broken and contrite heart.

Live it now

Compare your spiritual life today with your 'first love' season. Remember where you have fallen from, repent, and do the first works again, starting today.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, restore unto me the joy of Your salvation.
  2. Heal every backsliding in my heart and renew my first love.
  3. Keep me from falling, and present me faultless before Your presence.
Holy Spirit & powerOutlines 328, 383

The Holy Spirit: Receiving and Not Resisting

Why this study: Believers need the Holy Spirit's power, yet many resist His correction. This study covers how to receive the Spirit and how not to grieve Him.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • The path to the Upper Room experience: dealing with sin, heart purity, then the baptism of the Spirit.
  • Your faith should stand in the power of God, not in the wisdom of men.
  • We resist the Spirit by refusing correction, by uncircumcised hearts and ears, by pride and by selfishness.
  • The Spirit guides into all truth and protects from error.

Live it now

Ask the Holy Spirit to point out one area where you have resisted His correction. Obey promptly, and spend time each day this week simply waiting on Him.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Holy Spirit, I yield to You; lead me into all truth.
  2. Forgive me for every time I have resisted or grieved You.
  3. Let my faith stand in Your power.

Eternity and the Day of Judgement

Why this study: We are eternal beings. Every person will stand before God, and every work will be tested by fire.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • The body is mortal, but the soul lives forever, either with God or separated from Him.
  • God judges in history and will judge finally; every idle word will be accounted for.
  • Every believer is building on the foundation of Christ; our works will be tested by fire.
  • God looks at motives, not only actions.

Self-Examination and a Spiritual Check-Up

Why this study: We go for medical check-ups; our spiritual health deserves the same attention. Examine yourself before a crisis does it for you.

Key lessons

  • Self-examination shows whether we measure up to God's standard and assures us we are in the faith.
  • Areas to check: holiness, prayer life, Bible study, fasting, compassion for the lost, obedience, faithfulness and gratitude.
  • There are only two sides: God's or man's. There is no neutral ground.
  • Those who stop growing drift toward backsliding.

Live it now

Rate yourself honestly from 1 to 5 on prayer, Bible study, fasting, holiness, faith and soul-winning. Pick the lowest and set a simple, measurable goal for the next 30 days.

Bible references

  1. Search me, O God, and know my heart.
  2. Revive every area of my spiritual life that has grown weak.
  3. Help me to stand on Your side always.

Sin: Its Danger and Its Remedy

Why this study: Sin is more than mistakes; it separates us from God and destroys destinies. Thank God, Jesus has provided a full remedy.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • Sin is falling short of God's glory, lawlessness, all unrighteousness and knowing to do good and not doing it.
  • Sin enters through temptation, pride and lack of knowledge.
  • God punishes sin regardless of status; being used by God is no licence to sin.
  • We are born with a sinful nature, but whoever is born of God does not live in sin.
  • The remedy: faith in Christ's finished work, confession and repentance, and grace to overcome.

Live it now

Don't excuse any sin as 'small'. Confess specifically to God today, and where needed make restitution. Ask for grace in the area where you fall most often.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord Jesus, wash me in Your precious blood.
  2. Break the power of every besetting sin in my life.
  3. Give me grace to reign over sin and live in righteousness.

Awake! Revival and Rekindling the Fire

  • The fire goes out through carelessness, comfort, overconfidence, sin and neglect of prayer.
  • Revival requires desire, humility and fervent prayer.

  • The church is a chosen generation, a royal priesthood and a holy nation.

  • Jesus is the chief cornerstone; the gates of hell shall not prevail against His church.

Open the study

  3. Keep me from decisions made without Your counsel.

  3. Turn every evil plan against me into a stepping stone.

Why this study: Saul began well but was rejected by God. His story is a sober warning for anyone God has chosen and used.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • God never makes a mistake when He chooses a vessel, and He decides its use.
  • No one is wiser than God; His instructions may seem foolish, but they are perfect.
  • Partial obedience is disobedience and can be more dangerous than total rebellion.
  • Sacrifice offered in disobedience is vain; rebellion is like witchcraft.
  • Fear of man leads to disobedience; when God finally says no, no one can say yes.
  • It is better not to fall than to try to rise; no one is indispensable.

Live it now

Is there an instruction you have half-obeyed? Complete it. Fear God more than people's opinions.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, deliver me from partial obedience.
  2. Help me fear You more than people.
  3. Never let me become a rejected vessel.
Bible charactersOutlines 626–631

The Rejected Vessel (2): Saul's Downfall

Why this study: After his rejection, Saul's life spiralled downward: an evil spirit, jealousy, fear, witchcraft and a tragic end. Sin has consequences.

Open the study

Key lessons

  • When the Holy Spirit departs, the door opens to evil spirits.
  • Praise is a weapon of deliverance.
  • If God is for us, who can be against us? The fall of a leader enslaves followers.
  • Sin begets more sin; cover-ups lead deeper.
  • God does not answer the prayers of the unrepentant; turning to mediums is a terrible sin.
  • Starting well is not enough; finishing well matters. Gaining the world and losing heaven is the worst loss.

Live it now

Pray for your leaders. Guard your own heart so that a small sin doesn't become a pattern, and resolve to finish well.

Bible references

Prayer points

  1. Lord, take not Your Holy Spirit from me.
  2. Help me finish my race well.
  3. Protect our leaders from falling, and keep them in Your will.
